Update #83

Hello everyone,
Welcome to the first update of 2016 from Derby Socialist Workers Party.

In this week's update:
  • This week's branch meeting - From anti-Semitism to Islamophobia: the new racism of the right
  • Support Derby Stand Up To Racism!

Branch Meetings

The SWP is a party of activists who know that we need to understand the world to be effective in our actions. Our meetings have a discussion about key issues: economic, political, historical and cultural; as well as planning for events and activities.

We had a fantastic discussion about Marxism and women's liberation last week, although after an hour it still felt like we had only just scratched the surface!

This week we will hold a discussion on the topic of from anti-Semitism to Islamophobia: the new racism of the right, and explore how, after the historic defeat of fascist organisations by the left, the right are trying to reconfigure bigotry in a new way - and how we can oppose them. This seems especially relevant in the light of the attempts by racists thugs to attack anti-fascists and others who support migrants' rights at the weekend. Thursday 4th February, 7 pm at the West End Community Centre on Mackworth Road (next to Britannia Mill).

Join us for a lively discussion and debate, as well as planning for activities in the city for the week ahead!

All welcome. See you there!
